Almost everything has a name. I am Katie. This is a blog with a name: What is in a name? I attend a College named Dordt. My ipod's name is Georgiana. My computer is Henrietta and when I drive a car I always call it Fredrika. I think the only items that I own that don't have names are my trombone, and cell phone.
What is in a name that posses me to call my iPod Georgiana. Well, actually, I call my ipod Georgiana because the first soundtrack that I fell in love with was the Pride and Prejudice Soundtrack, in which my favorite character is the beloved Mr. Darcy's sister Georgiana. My favorite track on the OST is "Georgiana". What better name to call a device that plays music than the name that always comes to mind when I think of soundtracks - Georgiana.
My computer on the other hand I have no clear reason why she is called Henrietta. I think the only concrete fact is that I love old fashioned names.
The big question is what name should I give my trombone (bass trombone) and my phone. I am at a loss for names. I was thinking George for my trombone because:
A) My trombone doesn't look female
B) since it isn't female and it produces music why not complement my ipod and name it George.
Then there is the matter of my phone. What do I call my phone: Frank? Sure, it sounds like a decent name but does it really describe my phone. Let's take a look:
Does this describe the name Frank. I think so.
In conclusion, I now have a name from my trombone - George - and a name for my cell phone - Frank.
So, What is in a name? Character, personality, experience.

- its oldish
- its usedish
- its fairly simple
- it doesn't like to go very fast
- it makes mistakes (quite often)
- it doesn't receive messages on weird occasions
- it has sketchy cell phone reception (or maybe that is just because I'm in the middle of nowhere Iowa).
